Berlin, 2nd. October, 1929
To the Lord Mayor of the City of Mainz,
Mainz.
Dear Lord Mayor,
I can recommend Dr. Hans Gál in Vienna to you for the post of
Director of the Mainz Municipal Music College and Conservatory in the
warmest terms. He is one of the most learned and high-ranking musicians
known to me; a very gifted composer and excellent pianist, who as a
person doubtless also offers all the guarantees that you require. I
am in no doubt that, with his profound knowledge of all theoretical
aspects of music, he will be an excellent music teacher, and also in
the field of organisation and administration I believe that he can certainly
hold his own.
. . .
Yours, etc.
Dr. Wilhelm Furtwängler
